KnitLab terms

Terms of use and terms of sale. Last updated 1 October 2026 (version 2026-10-01): with a free account you can get the pattern for your own designs as a PDF by email (clause 5). Clause 20 on importing your own patterns was added on 29 September 2026, and clause 19 on gift cards on 28 September 2026.

This is an English translation of our terms, provided for convenience. The Norwegian version is the governing version: if the two differ, the Norwegian version applies. The agreement is governed by Norwegian law.

In short

1. Who we are

KnitLab (www.knitlab.no) is provided by:

Oellingrath Business (sole proprietorship, enkeltpersonforetak)
Org. no. 935 353 262
Vreimsida 96, 3803 Bø i Telemark, Norway
Phone +47 922 96 182
Email kontakt@knitlab.no

The business is not registered in the Norwegian VAT Register, and no VAT is charged on the prices.

2. About the agreement

These terms apply when you use KnitLab. You accept them when you create an account or buy Pro. You can use KnitLab without an account; the terms then apply as far as they are relevant.

If you are a consumer, you have the rights set out in, among others, the Norwegian Cancellation Act (angrerettloven), the Digital Content and Services Act (digitalytelsesloven), the Marketing Control Act (markedsføringsloven) and the Contracts Act (avtaleloven). These rules take precedence over the terms if anything in the terms should conflict with them.

Personal data is processed as described in the privacy policy.

3. What KnitLab is

KnitLab is an online design tool for knitting. You choose the garment, sizes, fit, yarn, tension and colourwork, and KnitLab creates the pattern with stitch counts, yarn amounts and step-by-step instructions in every size. KnitLab also has Chart Studio, knitting mode with a row counter, grading, yarn substitution and printing.

KnitLab works in the browser on phones, tablets and computers. You don't need to install anything. Without an account, what you create is stored only in the browser on your device.

4. Account

5. Free and Pro

Free gives access to all features, but with room for 1 design of your own and 1 colourwork chart of your own, and without printing your own designs straight from the app. With a free account, you can get the pattern for your own designs as a PDF by email. Anyone can print the sample patterns.

Pro gives you unlimited designs and colourwork charts of your own, printing your own patterns straight from the app in every size, and importing up to 10 patterns you have bought each month (clause 20). If you go back to the free version, you keep everything you have made, but you cannot create more than the free limit allows.

6. Price and payment

7. Renewal and cancellation

8. Right of withdrawal

You have the right to withdraw from the agreement for KnitLab Pro without giving any reason within 14 days of the day the agreement was entered into, that is, the day you bought Pro. The right of withdrawal applies to the first purchase, not to later renewals.

How to withdraw

You must let us know before the withdrawal period expires. It is enough to send your notice within the deadline. You can:

What you pay if you withdraw

KnitLab Pro is a digital service. When you buy, you ask for Pro to start straight away, before the withdrawal period has ended. If you withdraw, you therefore have to pay for the days you have had Pro (section 26 of the Cancellation Act). The amount is calculated as follows: the amount you paid for the period × the number of days you have had Pro ÷ the number of days in the period. The day you bought counts as one day.

Example: You buy a monthly subscription for NOK 59 and withdraw after 3 days in a month with 30 days. You pay 59 × 3 ÷ 30 = NOK 5.90 and get NOK 53.10 back.

Refund

We refund you without undue delay and no later than 14 days after we have been told that you are withdrawing. We use the same payment method you used when you bought, and you pay no fees for the refund. Pro ends when you withdraw, and your account switches to the free version. Your designs remain, and you can download them.

9. Updates and changes to the service

We keep KnitLab running, secure and in line with the agreement for the whole time you have access, and we give you the updates needed for that, including security updates. The updates are free. KnitLab runs in the browser, so you get the updates automatically the next time you open the app.

We keep developing KnitLab and may change, add or remove features when there is good reason to, for example to improve the service, to adapt it to new technology or to changes at our suppliers, for security reasons or because the law requires it. The changes cost you nothing.

If a change makes it more than insignificantly harder for you to use or access what you have paid for, we will notify you by email in good time, and at least 30 days before the change. You can then terminate the agreement free of charge within 30 days of the notice or the change, whichever is later, and get back what you have paid for the time after termination (sections 41 and 42 of the Digital Content and Services Act).

10. Price changes

We may change the price of Pro, for example if our costs change or we have to start charging VAT. We will notify you by email at least 30 days before the new price applies to you. A new price applies at the earliest from the first period that starts after the notice period has ended, and never to a period you have already paid for. If you do not want to pay the new price, you can cancel before it applies, and you will not be charged the new price.

11. If something is wrong

KnitLab must work as described on the website and in the app for the whole time you have access. If it does not, that is a defect, and you have rights under the Digital Content and Services Act. Among other things, you can:

Let us know at kontakt@knitlab.no or by phone within a reasonable time after you discovered the fault. It is up to us to show that the service has worked as it should. If you terminate the agreement, you get back what you paid for the time the service did not work, and you can download your content.

12. About the calculations

KnitLab calculates stitch counts, increases, decreases and yarn amounts from the measurements and tension you enter. The result can never be better than the information it is based on, and everyone knits a little differently. So always knit a tension swatch, check your tension and measure the garment as you go. The yarn amount is an estimate. It is a good idea to buy an extra ball and to ask the shop about exchanges.

The patterns KnitLab creates are calculated from your choices and have not been test knitted. If you want to share or sell a pattern you have made, we recommend having it test knitted first.

If there is an error in the calculations themselves, that is a defect in the service (clause 11). We are not responsible for results caused by errors in the information you have entered.

13. Your content and copyright

14. Use of the service

You can use KnitLab to design and knit, both privately and in your own business. You must not:

15. Closing your account

You can delete your account whenever you like: open the menu and choose ‘Delete account’. The account and everything stored in it is deleted immediately. If you have Pro, the subscription ends at the same time. You will not get money back for the rest of the period, so if you want to keep Pro until the end of the period, you can cancel instead and delete your account later. Payment receipts are kept by Stripe for as long as the Bookkeeping Act requires.

We may close or suspend an account if the terms are breached materially or repeatedly. We will let you know and give you the chance to put things right first, unless the breach is serious or illegal. If we close an account without you having breached the terms, we refund the rest of the period you have paid for.

If we shut down KnitLab, we will notify you by email at least 60 days in advance. You get back what you have paid for the time after the shutdown and can download your content.

16. Changes to the terms

We may change the terms when there is good reason to, for example new features, new laws or changes at our suppliers. The new version is published here with a new date. If the changes are to your disadvantage, we will notify you by email at least 30 days before they apply. If you do not want to continue on the new terms, you can cancel before they apply and get back what you have paid for the time after they take effect.

17. Liability

We are liable for losses caused by errors or negligence on our part, in accordance with the Digital Content and Services Act and the general rules of Norwegian law. We are not liable for losses caused by circumstances beyond our control that we could not reasonably have foreseen or avoided, for example widespread power or network outages. Nor are we liable for losses caused by you having entered incorrect information (clause 12).

We do what we can to keep KnitLab available at all times and your data safe. We keep planned maintenance as short as possible and preferably at times when few people are using the service. Anything you have stored in your browser can be used even if KnitLab is unavailable for a while.

18. Complaints and disputes

If you are not satisfied, contact us at kontakt@knitlab.no or by phone on +47 922 96 182. We will reply as quickly as we can and would like to find a solution.

If we cannot agree, you can ask for mediation from the Norwegian Consumer Authority (Forbrukertilsynet). If mediation does not resolve the matter, the case can be brought before the Norwegian Consumer Disputes Commission (Forbrukerklageutvalget).

The agreement is governed by Norwegian law. As a consumer, you can always bring a case before the court where you live.

19. Gift cards

You can buy gift cards for KnitLab Pro at knitlab.no/gavekort and give them to anyone you like.

20. Importing your own patterns

With Pro, you can upload a knitting or crochet pattern you have bought or obtained lawfully, as a PDF or as photos of the pages, and knit it in KnitLab: split into parts and steps, with ticking off, a row counter, read-aloud and conversion to a different yarn.

Only fill in and send this form if you want to withdraw from the agreement. The easiest way is the ‘Withdraw from purchase’ button in the app, or an email saying that you are withdrawing.
